MOLECULAR SIEVE BEDS AND TRITIUM CRYOTRAPS TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS: ADVANCED TRITIUM MANAGEMENT PROCESSES

Molecular sieve bed and tritium cryotrap systems are used frequently in tritium handling processes and other processes for drying gases and trapping or removing impurities in inert gas streams.

Molecular sieves are frequently used in tritium handling processes for drying inert process gas streams.  They also have the ability to hold or trap transported gases in inert gas streams at certain clearly defined temperatures.  


The molecular sieve is also used in the cryotrap, a combination of coiled tubes and molecular sieve beds.  In combination with cryogenic cooling, moisture can be frozen out of the gas stream and then hydrogen or tritium can be captured from a helium stream.
